The stages of gum disease. The early phase is what we call a gingivitis. That means infection and inflammation of the gum tissue is manifested by the redness of the gum tissue. Bleeding gums, sensitivity and tenderness of the gum tissue. That’s the early phase. And again, if the disease is not treated or progressed further and causes the loss of underlying structure, which is the bone.
And once you begin losing bone, obviously the tooth will begin to get loose and you may end up losing it. When it becomes a more advanced and we call periodontitis, which means not only you have inflammation of the gum tissue, but you have inflammation of supporting a structure such as the bone causing the bone loss and looseness of a tooth.
